| İstanbul’da 1999 İzmit depreminden önce hissedilen en şiddetli deprem olan “Büyük Hareket-i Arz”, şehrin genelinde ciddi hasarlara yol açmıştır. Eldeki kaynaklar, bu depremin etkisinin çok geniş bir alana yayıldığını doğrularken, süre açısından da İstanbul’da gerçekleşmiş olan en uzun deprem olduğunu göstermektedir (~18 saniye). Depremin merkezi civarında deniz sularının dalgalandığı ve bazı yerlerde kıyıdan 50m kadar çekildiği tarihsel kaynaklarda belirtilmektedir. |

| The “great movement-I Arz”, the most severe earthquake felt in Istanbul before the 1999 Izmit earthquake, caused serious damage throughout the city. The available sources confirm that the impact of this earthquake has spread over a very large area, while also showing that it is the longest earthquake to have occurred in Istanbul in terms of duration (~18 seconds). It is noted in historical sources that sea waters fluctuated around the center of the earthquake and in some places retreated as much as 50m from the coast. |
