Continuing his work on DNA repair, cell sequencing, cancer treatment and the biological clock, Sancar has published 415 scientific articles and 33 books. Sancar has received awards for its use of circadian clocks in cancer treatment. Sancar, who was eligible to receive the North Carolina distinguished chemist Award given by the American Chemical Society in 2001, was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, which is one of the most prestigious memberships in the world of Science, in 2005, becoming the first American Turk to be elected to this academy. After receiving this award, he established the Aziz&Gwen Sancar Foundation with his wife to help Turkish students studying in the United States and to improve Turkish-American relations, and opened a student guest house called “Carolina Turkish House” in the U.S. state of North Carolina. He was elected as a principal member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2006. |
